1) Master the basics
Fluency with exponents, fractions, linear equations, and ratios will carry you through most of the exam.
2) Use Answer Choices to Your Advantage
Work backwards by plugging in answer choices, especially on word problems or equations.
3) Don’t Overuse the Calculator
Sometimes solving by hand is faster. Practice recognizing when a quick calculation or mental math beats punching numbers in.
4) Watch the Units and Keywords
Pay close attention to what the problem asks: radius vs. diameter, area vs. perimeter, increase vs. percent increase.
5) Practice Under Timed Conditions
The SAT is as much about pacing as math skills. Get used to moving steadily, skipping tough problems, and circling back if time allows.
